Get Ready For March Madness 2011!
The excitement and anticipation is building up each day as we gear up towards the upcoming annual sporting event that is March Madness 2011! There is a noticeable change with this year’s edition of The Big Dance as the number of teams that enter the tournament is increased to 68 from the previous 64 teams.
This means there is more competition for the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship, and with its exciting single elimination format still in place, March Madness 2011 is expected to have hardly fought games among the contenders from different conferences for the title and the bragging right that comes along with it. March Madness starts on a selection Sunday following the first game on March 15th at University of Dayton Arena in Dayton, Ohio. This day will definitely ignite the 2011 College Basketball Tournament.
Among the teams expected to be in this year’s Sweet Sixteen are:
»» Big 12 Conference
Top-seeded Kansas Jayhawks (25-2) and number 8 seed Texas Longhorns (23-4) are expected to represent their conference in the Sweet Sixteen. Other Big 12 teams that may crack a spot in the final 16 team slots are Texas A&M Aggies (21-5), Missouri Tigers (21-6), and Kansas St. Wildcats (18-9) which are ranked number 27, 29, and 30, respectively.

»» Mountain West Conference
Number 2 seed San Diego State Aztecs (27-1) and number 3 seed Brigham Young University Cougars (25-2) are expected to see action and represent the Mountain West Conference in the Sweet Sixteen. 26th seed UNLV rebels (20-7) also has a shot in the tournament.
»» Big Ten Conference
Fourth seed Ohio State Buckeyes (25-2) and number 9 seed Purdue Boilermakers (22-5) are likely to end up among the final 16 teams while number 18 seed Wisconsin Badgers (20-6) may upset some higher seeded teams to enter into the Sweet Sixteen.
»» Big East Conference
Fifth seed Georgetown Hoyas (21-6), ninth seed Pittsburgh Panthers (24-3), number 10 seed Notre Dame Fighting Irish (21-5), 12th seed St. John’s (NY) Red Storm (17-9) and 14th seed Connecticut Huskies (20-6) make the Big East possibly as the conference with the most teams in the Sweet Sixteen. Other Big East teams such as West Virginia (17-9), Syracuse (22-6), Villanova (21-6) and Louisville (20-7) also figure to have a spot in the final 16 teams.
»» Atlantic Coast Conference
The ACC is expected to be represented in the Sweet Sixteen by the number 6 seed Duke Blue Devils (25-2) and the 11th seed North Carolina Tar Heels (20-6).
»» Southeastern Conference
The Southeastern Conference will most likely be represented in the Sweet Sixteen by the Florida Gators (21-5), which is ranked at number 13, as well as 16th and 17th seeds Kentucky Wildcats (19-7) and Vanderbilt Commodores (20-6), respectively
»» Pac 10, Western Atlantic, Colonial Athletic Association, and Atlantic 10 Conferences
The Arizona Wildcats (23-4), ranked number 15, is the only Pac 10 team that has a clear chance of entering the Sweet Sixteen while 19th seed Western Atlantic’s Utah State Aggies (25-3), 20th seed George Mason Patriots (23-5) and Old Dominion Monarchs (22-6) of the Colonial Athletic Association, as well as Atlantic 10’s Xavier Musketeers (20-6) all must work hard to figure a way into the Sweet Sixteen.
