#18 UCLA @ #15 Stanford
The weekend gets an early start with a matchup of ranked Pac-12 opponents as the Bruins travel to take on Stanford. After an ugly season-opening loss to Northwestern, the Cardinal have ripped off four straight wins, including impressive victories over USC (41-31) and Arizona (55-17). Senior QB Kevin Hogan leads the Stanford offense. He has 1,155 yards passing and nine TDs thus far. Running back Christian McCaffrey leads the vaunted Stanford ground game with 601 yards on 105 carries. The Cardinal stand alone atop the Pac-12 North, but still must face Oregon and California. The Bruins are still reeling over the loss of LB Myles Jack, who was lost for the season with a knee injury during a practice. UCLA will count on freshman quarterback Josh Rosen and running back Paul Perkins to provide the spark they need, which is just enough to pull a minor upset… UCLA 38, Stanford 34.

#17 Iowa @ #20 Northwestern
It’s a huge week in the Big Ten and a big week for both the Hawkeyes and the Wildcats. Northwestern’s defense was exposed last week in a 38-0 loss to Michigan. Head coach Pat Fitzgerald can’t afford a second consecutive loss. Iowa is 6-0 for the first time in a long time. Running back Jordan Canzeri may be the most underrated back in the country. Canzeri ran for 256 yards in last week’s win over Illinois. The difference in this game may be the play of Iowa QB C.J. Beathard, who has thrown for 1,239 yards and nine touchdowns so far. The Northwestern offense is led by a freshman, QB Clayton Thorson. He and RB Justin Jackson (661 yards rushing) make the Wildcats spread offense work. The edge goes to the home team in what could be a defensive battle… Northwestern 20, Iowa 17.

#10 Alabama @ #9 Texas A&M
The Tide is back into the top 10 and travels to College Station to take on the unbeaten Aggies. After a loss to Ole Miss, head coach Nick Saban’s team responded with a 38-10 shellacking of Georgia and a 27-14 win over Arkansas last week. Quarterback Jake Coker is gaining better command of the offense and the Tide have only given up more than 17 points once (in the loss to the Rebels). Alabama will face a dangerous Texas A&M team that features QB Kyle Allen (1,274 yards passing, 13 TDs). While head coach Kevin Sumlin is known for his potent offenses – the 2015 Aggie offense averages 39 points a game – the Texas A&M defense is solid. Defensive end Myles Garrett is one of the most feared pass rushers in all of college football. Even so, the Tide is on a mission to regain superiority in the SEC… Alabama 38, Texas A&M 30.

#7 Michigan State @ #12 Michigan
Little Brother travels to take on Big Brother in this fierce in-state rivalry. What makes it even more exciting is that the Wolverines are back. Head coach Jim Harbaugh has his defense playing incredibly well. The Wolverines have recorded three straight shutouts and are giving up just 6.3 points per game, tops in the nation. The rival Spartans have recorded two ugly wins in a row, scoring in the game’s final minute last week in a 31-24 win over Rutgers. Michigan State has won six of the last seven meetings including the last two in a row by a combined score of 64-17. Harbaugh and Michigan would like nothing more than to start a new streak of their own, but it will take the improving play of QB Jake Rudock and the continued efforts of the nation’s best defense to do so. Here’s to Harbaugh at home… Michigan 24, Michigan State 23.

#8 Florida @ #6 LSU
It’s the way it should be in the SEC. The Gators are back under new head coach Jim McElwain and LSU is riding the legs of Heisman favorite Leonard Fournette in a matchup of SEC heavyweights. The Tigers run for 346 yards per game, which the Florida defense is going to somehow have to manage. The Gators have only given up 13 points in their past two games, a 38-10 win over Ole Miss and a 21-3 win over Missouri last week. If they can limit Fournette, the Gators will have a shot. Redshirt freshman QB Will Grier has calmly led the offense with 1,204 passing yards and 10 touchdowns. He doesn’t make many mistakes which has helped Florida go 6-0 to start the season. Death Valley is one of the toughest places in America to play and the Tigers will take advantage of the atmosphere… LSU 17, Florida 14.

USC @ #14 Notre Dame

This game has lost most of its luster after the Trojans got beat for a second time this season last Thursday. A 17-12 loss to Washington and a report that head coach Steve Sarkisian may have been intoxicated during the Arizona State game has left Troy in a state of disarray. Sarkisian will take a leave of absence and Clay Helton will serve as the interim head coach. It won’t matter who coaches the Trojans Saturday. Notre Dame has overcome the loss of starting QB Malik Zaire to go 5-1 on the season. DeShone Kizer has 1,143 yards passing and eight touchdowns and C.J. Prosise has rushed for 779 yards and scored nine times to lead an Irish offense that averages 37 points a game. Head coach Brian Kelly and company move to 6-1 with a win Saturday night… Notre Dame 48, USC 20.
