Denver Broncos
Odds to win the AFC west division: +300
A five-year run as division champs ended last year as Denver went 2-4 against the Chargers, Raiders, and Chiefs. The Broncos started 2016 going 4-0 but faltered down the stretch. The quarterback position is up for grabs between Trevor Siemian, who started the majority of the games last season, and Paxton Lynch, a rookie last season who started two games. The Broncos still have Super Bowl MVP Von Miller on defense, but they must improve their running game if they are going to have any shot at winning the division. Denver finished 30th in rushing last season.

Kansas City Chiefs
Odds to win the AFC west division: +300
The Oakland Raiders will not surprise anyone in 2017. After a 12-4 finish a year ago, Oakland wound up second in the AFC West to division winner Kansas City. The Chiefs broke Denver’s five-year run as division champs. Head coach Andy Reid and company are primed for a repeat having signed Eric Berry, the key to their defense. The Chiefs did release wide receiver Jeremy Maclin but have the speedy Tyreek Hill to move into the No. 1 receiver slot. Travis Kelce is still one of the better tight ends in the league and Alex Smith is an underrated quarterback. Kansas City also picked up their quarterback of the future when they drafted Patrick Mahomes in this year’s draft. The Chiefs may have a hard time repeating as they face New England, Dallas, and Houston on the road this season.

Los Angeles Chargers
Odds to win the AFC west division: +175
The Chargers, now in Los Angeles, need to get through a season with fewer injuries. Last year, injuries caused Keenan Allen, Melvin Gordon, Antonio Gates, Travis Benjamin, Danny Woodhead, Hunter Henry, and Stevie Johnson all to miss time from the San Diego offense. Quarterback Philip Rivers once again played well but the Chargers just had no offensive consistency. Where the Chargers did improve was on defense. Rookie defensive end Joey Bosa made his mark with 10.5 sacks and the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. While talented, the Chargers are probably still a year away as they enter their first season under new head coach Anthony Lynn.

Oakland Raiders
Odds to win the AFC west division: +300
The Raiders return a healthy Derek Carr, who broke his fibula in Week 16 and wound up missing the playoffs. Oakland returns one of the best offensive lines in the league along with Carr’s top two targets, Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree. Khalil Mack is one of the NFL’s most dangerous pass rushers. While Oakland made the postseason last year, head coach Jack Del Rio wants to take another step in 2017. The Raiders have the roster to do just that.

In the end, it will be the team that stays the healthiest that comes out on top in the division. The money is on Oakland to do so. The Raiders’ depth and their superior quarterback play put them as the favorite to win the division.

AFC West Prediction: Oakland
