MLB 2008 Season Expert Predictions:

Following a hectic year in the MLB it’s forecasted to be another crazy one in ‘08. From the Colorado Rockies incredible burst into the playoffs, to the Mets demise, the entire ’07 season was a shock to all baseball fans.

AL East
AL Central
AL West

NL West - This could possibly be the most difficult division to predict. Each team in this division made at least one significant pick up this off season, and all are playoff worthy. It will be exciting to see the NL West race to the playoffs.

  1. San Diego Padres
  2. Los Angeles Dodgers
  3. Arizona Diamondbacks
  4. Colorado Rockies
  5. San Francisco Giants

Baseball Picks for 2008 Season

1. San Diego Padres – The Padres don’t have a draw-dropping line up, but with the addition of Jim Edmonds to assist Adrian Gonzalez, who we are expecting a huge year from, and Brian Giles, there hitting should be good enough. Now, on the other hand, they have an incredible rotation and bullpen. Jake Peavy, Chris Young, Greg Maddux, and now Randy Wolf, from LA, and Mark Prior. Nasty huh? Plus they have one of the best closers in the MLB in Trevor Hoffman. It will be a tight race, but if everyone stays healthy, they will finish first.

2. Los Angeles Dodgers – First off, they just signed on of the best managers of all time, Joe Torre. He knows how to bring home the rings. They also obtained Centerfielder Andruw Jones from Atlanta, the multiple Gold Glove Winner. He and Edmonds have been battling it out since Edmonds moved to the NL.

This could be one of the most devastating line up, top to bottom. Furcal, Pierre, Kent, Garciaparra and now Jones. The starting rotation is great too. Brad Penny, Derek Lowe and Jason Schmidt…not bad. This will be down to the wire between LA and SD. Which ever team finishes 2nd will probably grab the wild card.

3. Arizona Diamondbacks – They have a terrific starting rotation, as do all the other teams in the West. The pick up of Dan Haren from Oakland along with Cy Young Award winner, Brandon Webb will give them a shot at least at the wild card. As I said before, this is going to be a CLOSE race in this division. I don’t believe they’re talented enough at the plate though. They are lacking the superstar to drive in the runs. They will be in the hunt til the end though.

4. Colorado Rockies - They too have a good pitching staff led by Jeff Francis. They also have Matt Holliday and the reigning NL MVP, Todd Helton. I like the Rockies, but this division is too tough to not have made any significant signings.

5. San Francisco Giants – San Fran picks up Barry Zito. What a huge acquisition. But, the lose the other Barry…yup Bonds! They did grab Rowand to play center, but he wont be enough to bring them to the top. The Giants will be bottom-dwellers this year. Look for them to start the rebuilding before the trade deadline.
