There was a promise made from US president Barack Obama to Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls which stemmed from a visit to the White House by the Dallas Mavericks back on Monday, January 9th, 2012. During the event Obama casually joked that the world champion Mavericks achieved a great victory but wouldn't be returning next year; instead it would be the Chicago Bulls.
“This was a remarkable run, a great victory,” by Dallas, Obama said. “It’s too bad that next year, it’ll be the Chicago Bulls here.”
Well known as an avid sports fan and huge supporter of Chicago based sports teams, Obama once again showed his enthusiasm for his home team. The president's comment eventually got back to the Chicago Bulls and Derrick Rose in particular. Rose seemed to take the comment very seriously. As a big Obama supporter Rose enjoyed the comment and declared that he would hold Obama to that promise, even going so far as to say that he expects Obama to show up in Chicago if the Bulls make it to the finals.
If Derrick and the Chicago Bulls do win the NBA finals and are invited to the White House it won't be their first visit; they visited the White House shortly after Obama took office. Rose is also known for appearing at an Obama fundraiser to show his support for the commander-in-chief.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about this "bet" between Obama and Rose is the fact that Rose and the Chicago Bulls are definitely capable of pulling off an NBA championship win. Rose is well known in Chicago and beyond for his incredible plays and exceptional basketball odds. I is also worth mentioning that the Chicago Bulls did have the best record of last year's season making them a legitimate force to be reckoned with.
This "bet" between Obama and Rose (and by extension the entire Chicago Bulls team) has gotten Chicago Bulls fans pumped-up, mainly due to the very real possibility of the Bulls making it to, and winning, the finals. It remains to be seen whether or not Obama will make good on his end of the bargain but considering his intense love for the team it seems likely he would have visited the finals if they were in it and later invited them to the White House if they won even if he hadn't made that comment to the Mavericks.
