Argentina vs. Germany – World Cup Quarterfinal

Category: Soccer

World Cup Quarterfinal
Argentina vs. Germany
Saturday, 10 am Eastern – ABC

Another classic matchup is on tap for Saturday in World Cup quarterfinal betting action as Argentina battles Germany in a game that can be seen on ABC. Four years ago it was Germany winning 4-2 in a penalty shootout after the teams played to a 1-1 draw after extra time.  The match on Saturday is expected to be just as exciting.

Germany’s focus on Saturday will be on Lionel Messi.  Germany captain Philipp Lahm said that the team will be trying to keep Messi under control.  Messi has not scored a goal yet during the World Cup but he has opened up the field for other strikers including Gonzalo Higuain who leads all scorers in World Cup goal scoring.

Argentina has not lost a match so far in the 2010 World Cup and they have been as impressive as any team.  Germany lost 1-0 to Serbia in the group stage but they had no trouble with England in the round of 16. Both teams are very confident heading into Saturday’s match.  Argentina’s Carlos Tevez said he was more afraid of Mexico than he is of Germany.  The trash talk has been prevalent on both sides as Germany’s Bastian Schweinsteiger said that Argentina is not respecting his side and captain Phillipp Lahm said that he can’t wait to see how Argentina reacts to losing.

Both Argentina and Germany have shown the ability to score goals in this year’s World Cup.  Argentina has Messi, Carlos Tevez and Higuian while Germany has Miroslav Klose Lukas Podolski and Mesut Ozil.  With so much firepower for both teams the match could come down to the defense.  Argentina will need captain Javier Mascherano to contain Germany’s strikers while Germany will need Lahm to keep Messi in check.

The pressure is on both teams to win this match.  Argentina head coach Diego Maradona has promised big things for this World Cup and a quarterfinal loss will not go over well while Germany will be playing in front of Chancellor Angela Merkel. Argentina is a two-time World Cup champion as they won the title in 1978 and 1986 while Germany is a three-time champion, having won the title in 1954, 1974, and 1990.  The teams have met five times previously in World Cup play including twice in the final.

David Beckham’s 1st LA Galaxy Home Game against AC Milan is Sellout.

Category: Soccer

CARSON, California — The Los Angeles Galaxy says its upcoming game against AC Milan is sold out for David Beckham’s first home game of the season with the MLS team.

The club said on July 16th that the standing room only seats at the stadium for Sunday’s exhibition it put on sale last weekend has entirely vanished.

Beckham rejoined the Galaxy this week after completing a five-month loan with AC Milan a couple months ago. He was set to make his season debut Thursday night with the team on the road against the New York Red Bulls.
