Elite Eight NCAA Basketball Tournament Teams and Players

Category: NCAA Basketball

NCAA is a basketball tournament played between approximately sixty five schools and colleges from all over the United States and for the title of the ultimate champion of basketball. This tournament is very popular in the US and is followed very religiously. This tournament is played in the month of March and is often referred as March madness also.

This is a much talked about event of the season. Following are a few updates of this season. To start with there is a sad news about one of the players of West Virginia University, Darryl “Truck” Bryant, who wont be able to play this seasons tournament as he has unfortunately broken his right foot. He holds an amazing record of thirty one games and has an average of 9.3 points. He will have to be replaced by a junior player now called Joe Mazzulla who is not as good a scorer as Darryl.

March madness has reached its level two now, and the surprises are coming in with every match played. Most of the teams which were expected to make it through have made it, but there are a lot of unexpected things also happening around. The most unexpected news of this season is that last year’s champion team of North Carolina Tar Heels has not made to round two this time. It is not a guarantee that you will make to the finals in the consecutive years, though the all time favorite team of Kansas has made it through. They entered round two by defeating the team of Lehigh in the first round with a score of ninety against the seventy four of Lehigh. It is anticipated that the team of Kansas will be able to make it to final four as well. Another last year’s qualifier from Midwest Division, Michigan, has also made it to round two.

From the West Division, last years final four qualifiers Connecticut surprisingly was not a part of the first round even this season. On the other hand a last year’s qualifier from East Division, Villanova, finally made it to round two with a very close match between them and Robert Morris in the South Division. The match stopped at a score of 73-70 in the favor of Villanova.

Following is a list of matches that will be played among the teams which will advance to round two.

· East – people here will witness the following matches- Kentucky versus Wake Forest, Cornell versus Wisconsin, Washington versus New Mexico, Missouri versus West Virginia

· South- here Duke will be facing California, Texas A&M will be against Purdue, Old Dominion will face Baylor and St. Mary’s will be against Villanova.

· Midwest- Kansas will fight out N. Iowa, Michigan will be against Maryland, Tennessee will fight Ohio and Georgia Tech will be facing Ohio St.

· West- west will witness matches were Syracuse will be against Gonzaga, Butler will be facing Murray, St. Xavier will fight Pittsburgh and BYU will fight Kansas St.

There will be a lot of excitement to watch these matches. We should be excepting the unexpected and definitely go and witness the real game for enjoying it to the core.

Georgetown at Syracuse
Monday, 7:00 pm Eastern – ESPN

Syracuse will try and continue their home dominance over Georgetown as the two teams meet in Big Monday action on ESPN. The Orange have won 10 of the last 11 at home against the Hoyas and are favored to do so again in this game.

Syracuse is a 6 point favorite at SBG Global with a total of 146.5.

Syracuse has won seven straight overall and have just one loss this season.

They are coming off a win on Saturday against Marquette when they had their biggest crowd of the season at the Carrier Dome. The last time they met Georgetown almost a year ago, more than 31,000 fans showed up. “We have great fans here in Syracuse,” forward Kris Joseph said. “Our fans are die-hard fans and I think them being here and being so loud helps us a lot. I think it scares a lot of teams.” Syracuse beat Marquette as Wesley Johnson had 22 points and 15 rebounds while Joseph added 14 points and 11 rebounds. “That just shows how good of a basketball team we are,” Joseph said. “Andy being shut down today was a great thing to see, because now we know what everyone else is capable of.”

Georgetown comes into this game playing very well.

They upset Pittsburgh last Wednesday and followed that win by routing Rutgers on Saturday. Greg Monroe has averaged 21 points and 13.7 rebounds in his last three games. “We were focused for the most part,” head coach John Thompson said. “They came out with a cohesiveness and an energy which was a good for us. That’s something we’ve stressed that we want to maintain.” The Hoyas have Monroe who can impact the game inside and Chris Wright who can score from the outside. Wright had 27 points in last week’s win over Pittsburgh.

Georgetown and Syracuse split their two meetings last season. The Hoyas are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games. The Hoyas are 7-19 ATS in their last 26 vs. the Big East. The Hoyas are 1-5 ATS in the last 6 meetings at Syracuse.

The Orange are 12-3 ATS in their last 15 vs. the Big East. The Orange are 12-4 ATS in their last 16 home games.
