138th Open Championship in Turnberry, Scotland this weekend betting odds.

Category: Golf News

TURNBERRY, Scotland — If Tiger Woods is to win the 138th Open Championship, he will have to do what he was unable to do at either of this year’s first two majors — rally. Check out the betting odds on Tiger Woods to win this weekend.

It was another TW from Stanford — five-time Open champion Tom Watson — who turned back the clock while shooting a 5-under-par 65. Ben Curtis and Kenichi Kuboya also shot 65. Miguel Jimenez leads the tournament with a 64.

Woods, meanwhile, was not even able to keep pace with the players in his group, shooting 1-over 71 while England’s Lee Westwood and Japan’s Ryo Ishikawa shot 2-under 68.

“I certainly made a few mistakes out there today,” said Woods, who has won three Open Championships and 14 major titles overall. “Realistically, I probably should have shot about 1 or 2 under par today. But I made a few mistakes, and consequently I’m at 1 over. … I hit a couple of shots to the right today, and three-ripped [putted] a hole from about 15 feet, and I didn’t take advantage of 17 [a par-5]. So there you have it.”

All of this came on a day that was relatively easy for scoring, at least by Open standards.

“She was defenseless today,” said Watson, who won the Open here in an epic showdown with Jack Nicklaus in 1977 and won the Senior British Open at Turnberry in 2003. “Obviously, the golf course played with no wind, and it was an easy test, if you have an easy test in an Open Championship.”

Woods made three birdies and four bogeys, saving his worst for last when he bogeyed the 15th and 16th holes and failed to birdie the par-5 17th.

For the day, he hit just 8 of 14 fairways, despite using mostly irons off tees. He did hit 12 of 18 greens and needed 30 putts.

And he has put himself in familiar position, at least as far as the majors are concerned. Woods was 5 strokes back after a first-round 70 at the Masters and 10 back after a 74 at the U.S. Open. At both tournaments, Woods finished tied for sixth, 4 strokes out of a playoff after having won in his previous start.

Woods came into the Open after a victory at the AT&T National, his third of the year.

“The misses I had were the same shots I was hitting on the range,” Woods said. “So I need to go work on that and get it squared away for tomorrow.”

CARSON, California — The Los Angeles Galaxy says its upcoming game against AC Milan is sold out for David Beckham’s first home game of the season with the MLS team.

2009 NFL Arizona Cardinals Upcoming Season Preview

Category: NFL Football

The Arizona Cardinals nearly capped off an amazing season with a Super Bowl victory in 2008 but fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Cardinals head into NFL 2009 season looking just as strong as they did last year, perhaps even better, but they must overcome a lot of negative history that is against them. Arizona is a 25-1 long shot NFL odds to win Super Bowl XLIV.

The Cardinals may look the same as they did last year but there were a lot of changes in the off-season. The two biggest changes you may not immediately notice are that offensive coordinator Todd Haley and defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast are gone.

Kurt Warner was re-signed in the off-season and that was huge for Arizona. He is a Pro-Bowl quarterback who knows how to win. Arizona will need to continue to protect him though as 38-year old quarterbacks don’t move around very well. Arizona has perhaps the best wide receiver in the game in Larry Fitzgerald and of course if Anquan Boldin comes back they will be as dangerous as ever with Steve Breaston continuing to improve. The Cardinals picked Chris Wells out of Ohio State in the draft and he could immediately take the starting running back job and greatly improve an area of weakness.

The Arizona defense during the regular season wasn’t very good but somehow in the postseason they turned things around. Which defense will we see in 2009? One of the players that performed well in the playoffs, Antonio Smith is done. They will need rookie Cody Brown to immediately make an impact or they could struggle rushing the passer. The good news for Arizona is that their linebackers, led by Karlos Dansby are solid and the secondary is very good led by Adrian Wilson and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Bryant McFadden was signed away from Pittsburgh and he should help.

The biggest problem that Arizona may face in 2009 is the Super Bowl runner-up letdown. It happens almost every year that the runner-up in the Super Bowl flops the next season. It may not happen to Arizona since they have a lot of talent but history is not on the side of the Cardinals. This decade only one team even made the playoffs after losing the NFL betting Super Bowl the previous year. The only reason the Cardinals might break the Super Bowl runner-up jinx is because they play in the NFC West which means they get San Francisco, St. Louis and Seattle. The Seahawks should be vastly improved but Arizona also gets to play the Lions this season.

Arizona may struggled to reach last season’s 9-7 record and make the playoffs if history is any indication.

Who’s the MLB’s Hottest Home Teams

Category: MLB Baseball

MLB Betting – Who’s Hot MLB’s Hottest Home Teams

Home field advantage in the majors this season has been as important as ever. Now that July baseball is here and pretenders are being left behind the contenders, check out BetUS Sportsbook’s list of the hottest home teams in the bigs…

(Rank) (Team) (SU Road Record, $$$) (SU Road Record in L/5, $$$)

1: Tampa Bay Rays (26-13, +$662) (5-0, +$500 in L/5) Some of the big name teams in the American League that got off to lousy starts are beginning to play significantly better baseball, and the Rays are no exception. They’ve run off seven straight overall, including five at home last week to get back within four games of Boston for the top spot in the AL East. Tampa Bay scored 32 runs in its L/5 home games, but the more impressive stat came out of the pitching staff, which only allowed 12 runs in those games. The bullpen is starting to come together like last season, and all in all, manager Joe Maddon has to be very happy with his starting pitching staff, especially now that RHP Andy Sonnanstine is no longer a part of it. The only question left is how many of these Rays will be All-Stars in two weeks. 3B Evan Longoria, LF Carl Crawford, 2B/RF Ben Zobrist, SS Jason Bartlett, and a host of pitchers have a good gripe.

2: Detroit Tigers (23-11, +$918) (5-0, +$500 in L/5) The Tigers may only be 2-3 to start off their nine-game roadie, but they certainly left Comerica Park in good form. They swept away both the Cubs and Brewers in their final home stand of the month of June, and did so by scoring at least five runs in four of those five ‘W’s. Even though manager Jim Leyland’s bunch has a four-game cushion in the AL Central, both the White Sox and Twinkies are starting to breathe down their necks. Detroit still has one of the best pitching staffs in baseball, as SPs Edwin Jackson, Justin Verlander, and Rick Porcello are a combined 22-12 this season, and all have sub-4.00 ERAs.

3: Florida Marlins (22-20, -$49) (5-0, +$500 in L/5) The Fish have won seven straight games at home, and very well could see that streak reach 11 games very easily. Yes, in fairness, the L/5 of those games has come against the Nationals and Orioles, but the two wins that started this streak were against the Yankees. Florida has scored at least four runs in six straight home games, and has really been tearing the cover off the ball. With the Mets slumping, the Marlins are comfortably up in second place in the NL East standings, and now they’re starting to stalk the Phillies, who haven’t been playing fantastic baseball of late either. Don’t count this squad out of the playoff race just yet. Much like last season, they’ll be in it until the very end.

And the rest…

4: Colorado Rockies (17-15, -$192) (5-0, +$500 in L/5)
5: Chicago White Sox (20-20, -$478) (4-1, +$336 in L/5)
